Marmo's big day leads Calhoun in 11 innings
Joanne Marmo hit a grand slam and drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Lauren Trimarco in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday as Calhoun overcame a five-run deficit in the 10th to edge Baldwin, 16-15, in Nassau Conference AA-II softball.
Calhoun (3-2) trailed 14-9 entering the 10th but scored five runs, highlighted by Marisa Marcigliano's three-run double.
Plainview JFK 14, Freeport 1: Traci Lichtenstein hit three grand slams and Katie Rotcofsky struck out 10 and allowed two hits and two walks for Plainview JFK (3-1) in Conference AA-II.
East Meadow 3, Carey 0: Kerri Shapiro tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and had a two-run double in the third to lead East Meadow (3-1) in Conference AA-I. Taylor Conti had an RBI single in the win.
MacArthur 4, Long Beach 1: Kristen Brown had two home runs and four RBIs and struck out 14 in a complete game for MacArthur (4-0) in Conference AA-I.
Herricks 30, Hempstead 0: Cara Burkey had two strikeouts and two walks in a five-inning no-hitter and Jessica Thomas hit a three-run homer for Herricks (3-0) in Conference AA-III.
Shoreham-Wading River 2, Sayville 0: Alex Hutchins and Madeline Massa hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth and Chelsea Hawks struck out eight in a four-hitter for SWR (2-2) in Suffolk League VI.
Centereach 3, Smithtown West 1: Emma Agostini's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh scored Arianna LaPluma and Tia LaPluma to win it for Centereach (3-2) in League III.
BASEBALL
Bellport 4, Deer Park 2: Garrett Clarke threw a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts and hit a solo home run in the second inning to lead Bellport (4-3) in League V. Nick Dunning's three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth gave Bellport a 4-2 lead.
Rocky Point 4, Miller Place 3: Tyler Piccolo went 3-for-3 and his infield single scored John Popko with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth for Rocky Point (6-1) in League VI. Trevor Mercier allowed one hit and struck out seven in three scoreless innings of relief for the win.
Smithtown East 3, Whitman 0: Justin Cusano allowed one hit and struck out six in five innings to lead Smithtown East (7-1) in League III. Chris Rubin pitched two scoreless innings for his third save.
Elmont 7, Westbury 0: Danny Aguilo struck out nine and walked three in a two-hitter and Darius Velez had a three-run double to lead Elmont (5-0) in Nassau Countywide.
Farmingdale 2, Oceanside 1: Ryan Selitti hit an RBI double to score Anthony Bonilla in the top of the seventh for the go-ahead run for Farmingdale (1-1) in Conference AA-I. Junior Tim Manolt struck out seven, walked two and scattered six hits for his first varsity win.
BOYS LACROSSE
Bay Shore 13, Northport 12: Jake Sheets (two goals, three assists) scored the winner with four seconds left and Griffin Rock had five goals for Bay Shore (3-1) in Division I.
Hills East 11, East Islip 10: Jesse Parker scored three goals, including the winner with 7.7 seconds left for Hills East (3-1), in Division I. Anthony Ramaizel (four goals) tied the game at 10 with 42 seconds left for Hills East.
North Babylon 8, Middle Country 7: Ryan Slane's unassisted goal with 0.4 seconds left won it for North Babylon (3-1) in Division I. Ryan's brother Connor had three goals and Alex Lopez stopped 15 shots.
Riverhead 7, Copiague 5: Ryan Hubbard's goal with 9:50 left in the third broke a tie at 4 for Riverhead (2-3) in Division I.
Plainview JFK 5, Division 3: Dan Desimone (two goals) scored the go-ahead goal with 5:21 left and Jake Morris made seven saves for Plainview JFK (4-3) in non-conference.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Huntington 12, Islip 11: Hannah Burnett scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from Alexis Thompson with two minutes left to lead Huntington (4-0) in Division II. Burnett led the way with six goals and two assists. Colleen Wright had six ground balls and three forced turnovers.
Sayville 11, Rocky Point 10: Emily Meier scored five goals, including the winner with 45 seconds left for Sayville (4-0) in Division II. Amanda Sanchez (three goals) tied the score at 10 with four minutes left for Rocky Point. Connie Nielsen had three goals and Kim Marra added a goal and two assists for Sayville.
Baldwin 18, Our Lady of Mercy 12: Nicole Gardinos scored six goals, Allie Rogers had five goals and two assists and Amanda Clemmons caused three turnovers for Baldwin (3-3) in non-league.
