The Massapequa Park village board meets Monday night at 8 p.m. and will hold a hearing on extending the term for the community’s one taxi franchise term from one year to three years.

Village officials say the longer period would give the taxi company owners more certainty about their situation in the community and save the village time and money by not having to go through the bidding process annually.

Long Island Checker currently has the franchise but it expires in October and the village is preparing to seek bids.
