Massapequa School Voters Guide 2010
VOTING
6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lockhart, Fairfield and McKenna schools and Massapequa High School.
THE BUDGET
The district is proposing a budget of $176,172,498 budget for the 2010-11 school year, an increase of 2.6 percent over the current budget of $171,715,173. The tax levy would rise 2.48 percent to $143,979,857 from $140,494,663.
The district said it was unable to calculate the dollar amount of the school tax paid on an average single-family house or the percentage increase in school taxes paid on an average house under the proposed 2010-11 budget. Taxes on the average single-family home are $6,165 under the 2009-10 budget.
The proposed budget does not call for teacher and staff reductions or specific program or service cuts. Officials said teacher salary estimates are subject to negotiations.
