Mastic Beach Village will purchase vehicle fuel directly from Brookhaven’s fuel retailer through the town’s system, according to town officials.

At last week’s board meeting, Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko and the town board voted to enter into an agreement with Mastic Beach to allow the village to buy vehicle fuel at Calabro Airport directly from the fuel retailer.

The agreement allows Mastic Beach to pay less for gas because Brookhaven buys its fuel in bulk for a lower price than Mastic Beach would be able to on its own, a Brookhaven spokesman said.

“Entering into this [agreement] will result in a cost savings for the taxpayers of Brookhaven Town and Mastic Beach Village,” Lesko said in a statement. “I am happy that both municipalities are working well together as the transition for the village proceeds, and I look forward to our continued cooperation.”

Brookhaven Councilman Dan Panico sponsored the agreement.
