Mastic Beach votes to change village work session schedule

The Mastic Beach Village board of trustees passed a resolution to switch work session meetings from the third to first Wednesday of each month.

The move allows work sessions to be held the week before monthly board meetings, which are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month.

The 5 p.m. Wednesday meetings are open to the public, but attendees are not allowed to comment.

Trustee Gail Cappiello said the new schedule is an improvement, because the board can hash out issues before board meetings.

“We need to meet before the general meeting and not after,” Mayor Bill Biondi said.

After Mastic Beach became an incorporated village in 2010, work session meetings were held every Wednesday, but the trustees later decided to scale back.
