Mayor arming himself doesn't solve problem

Regarding your story about Freeport's Mayor Andrew Hardwick installing personal protective devices at his home and office ["Mayor carries a gun," News, April 17], I feel that any public official who fears for his life while in office needs to take measures to create a safer public environment.
Who is he that he deserves to feel safer than his constituents? And at their expense? He may be protecting himself, but cowering in his safe office doesn't help anyone but himself.
