I have a few memories of Luna Vachon during her WWE career, but if there is one thing I remembered about her it was the hair. She had that long blond hair with the wacky eye makeup and a face that looked ready to torture someone. Her eyes seemed like they could burn a hole through steel.

It was all part of a gimmick that she played very well during her stints with the WWE. She began her career with the company in 1993. She left for ECW and WCW before coming back to the WWE in 1997 where she remained until 2000.

I remember when the WWE had the women’s division in the late 1990’s with Sable, Ivory, Jacqueline, and Luna. She was not the prettiest “diva” but she was not meant for that. Her job was to make an impact and stand out among the other women wrestlers and she did just that. Sable was great eye candy and when she would stand next to Luna it was the difference between night and day.

However, among the galaxy of stars in the WWE during that time, Luna held her own. I could remember thinking about her appearance on Raw after the show went off the air. She was different and in a good way. She was one of those very memorable characters of the Attitude Era. That’s the best way to summarize it.

The Vachon family has wrestling in its blood. Her father was Butcher Vachon and her uncle was “Mad Dog” Vachon who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year.

In case you missed the news, Gertrude "Luna" Vachon died Friday morning in Florida at the age of 48 according to Foxsports.com. She died at her mother’s home and the cause of death has yet to be determined. Vachon was living with her mother since her home was seriously damaged in a fire.
