Merrick Avenue civic group to meet

East Meadow is named for its location, according to the hamlet's Chamber of Commerce website. In 1655, Thomas Langdon reported at the Hempstead Town meeting that he surveyed the "East Meadow" and found it suitable for the grazing and watering of cattle. (March 12, 2012) Credit: Nicole Bartoline
The Merrick Avenue Civic Association is hosting a meeting on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at the East Meadow Public Library, 1886 Front St.
Issues on the agenda include smart growth planning, attracting new businesses to the area, pedestrian safety, traffic concerns and issues at the Nassau County Correctional Center, said civic association president Pat Maher.
Guest speakers include representatives from the state Department of Transportation and the Nassau County Sheriff Officers Association, the union that represents the county correction officers, Maher said.
The majority of the meeting will be open for community participation, questions and answers, Maher said.
