Why has Metro-North Railroad overtaken the Long Island Rail Road as the No. 1 commuter rail in the country? The obvious explanation is effects of the recession eating into ridership. But perhaps it’s because conductors like this keep customers coming back.

In this video, the conductor -- mistakenly identified as a New York City police officer on the subway -- is seen playing the harmonica and rapping, to the delight of riders. A Metro-North spokeswoman confirmed that the conductor works the New Haven line for the railroad, but did not immediately release his name.
