Long Island native and three-time WWE champion Mick Foley was the first inductee announced for the 2013 class of the WWE Hall of Fame during the 20th anniversary edition of Monday Night Raw.
Foley, 47, was long rumored to get the Hall of Fame nod, considering that WrestleMania will be held closeby at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on April 7. Foley's upcoming induction was confirmed Friday by wwe.com after being reported by the New York Post.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held the night before WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden.
Foley's moment Monday night in Houston was initially muted. He walked to the ring upon his announcement, but as he started his speech he was nearly attacked by upstart WWE trio The Shield. Foley escaped as Ryback came into the ring, soon joined by Randy Orton and Sheamus to fight off the newbies.
Later, Foley shared laughs during a backstage vignette with his former Rock 'n' Sock Connection partner, WWE legend turned movie star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
