Asharoken has a new village attorney — Bruce Migatz of Albanese & Albanese in Garden City.

The board of trustees approved the mayor’s appointment Monday with a 4-1 vote. The board approved a one-year term, in which Migatz will receive a $30,000 annual retainer and $300 per hour when he provides legal services that are “not considered general legal advice,” such as litigation and arbitration proceedings.

Migatz replaces Ken Savin, who served as the village attorney for four years. He was paid $60,000 in his last year for his village attorney duties and $200 per hour when he prosecuted violations of village law and ordinances in court.

The board voted in July to hire former village attorney Laure Nolan to serve as the village’s special assistant district attorney, at an hourly rate of $200. She will continue in that post .
