Miguel Cabrera exits second game of doubleheader early
Kyle Ryan pitched six scoreless innings in his major-league debut as the Detroit Tigers salvaged a split of yesterday's doubleheader against the White Sox with an 8-4 victory in Chicago.
Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera pulled up lame while running out a grounder in the fourth inning and left the game.
In the opener, Chris Sale (11-3, 2.11) struck out 13 in seven innings to outduel Max Scherzer (15-5, 3.26) in Chicago's 6-3 win. Adam Dunn and Tyler Flowers homered against Scherzer, who fanned 11 in 62/3 innings.
Indians 3, Royals 2: Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana each had an RBI single in the 11th for visiting Cleveland.
Orioles 3, Twins 2: Chris Davis hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh for host Baltimore, which acquired outfielder Alejandro De Aza from the White Sox for two minor-leaguers and former Yankees infielder Kelly Johnson from the Red Sox for two minor-leaguers. When he debuts for the Orioles, Johnson will have played for all five AL East teams, three this year.
Nationals 3, Mariners 1: Stephen Strasburg fanned eight in 72/3 innings and Jayson Werth homered for visiting Washington.
Angels 2, A's 0: Eight pitchers combined to allow three hits for host Los Angeles, which moved four games ahead of the A's.
Rays 7, Red Sox 0: Jake Odorizzi and two relievers pitched a one-hitter for host Tampa Bay, allowing only a fourth-inning single by Will Middlebrooks. Dustin Pedroia left the game with concussion-like symptoms after a sliding Logan Forsythe hit him in the head with his arm.
Giants 3, Brewers 1: Jake Peavy took a no-hitter into the eighth and allowed one hit in 72/3 innings for host San Francisco.
Padres 2, Dodgers 1: Alexi Amarista had a walk-off single with one out in the 10th.
Cardinals, Cubs split. Matt Holliday homered twice and drove in five runs as host St. Louis won the second game, 13-2. In the opener, Felix Doubront pitched seven strong innings in the Cubs' 5-1 victory.
Pirates 3, Reds 2: Neil Walker hit a three-run homer in the first for host Pittsburgh.
Marlins 4, Braves 0: Jarred Cosart pitched seven innings for visiting Miami.
Rockies 2, Diamondbacks 0: In Phoenix, Vidal Nuño (2-9) retired 20 straight batters and allowed only two hits in eight innings but fell to 0-4 in 10 starts since the trade that sent Brandon McCarthy to the Yankees. In seven of those starts, he's allowed two or fewer runs. -- AP
