Mike Canobbio wins No. 500

Lindenhurst coach Mike Canobbio became the fifth coach in Suffolk history to win 500 games as Lindenhurst defeated Whitman, 9-0. Lindenhurst (15-2) clinched the Suffolk League II title for the second straight year. Canobbio is in his 35th season as Bulldogs coach and they have made 28 playoff appearances, won 10 league titles and won a state Class AA title last season.

"We always preach team, and I've had a lot of tremendous teams, good individual talent and great coaching staffs," Canobbio told Newsday. "This just substantiates what we've had over the years."
