Mike Lembo has reason to feel good
Mike Lembo likes being the life of the party.
The 24-year-old singer says he used to be into more hard-hitting hip-hop growing up in East Meadow, but he has found that dance music clicks with him more as an artist.
"I like feel-good music," he says. "It stays true to who I am as a person. I believe that positivity is the way to go."
Lembo certainly has plenty to be positive about these days. His new single, "Can't Come Down," on which he teamed up with producers Mike Rizzo and Steve "Mr. Mig" Migliore, is getting plenty of radio attention -- on Long Island's Party 105 and in other dance-oriented markets like Chicago and Central Florida.
He says he'll never forget hearing the song on the radio for the first time. "I was in the car on my way to my brother's house in Suffolk," Lembo says. "I knew a lot of people had been requesting the song, so as soon as I could get the reception I turned it on and they were playing 'Moves Like Jagger.' Right after that, they played my record. Radio had always been a big goal. To hit one of your goals and know you hit it? That's huge."
Lembo plans to keep crossing off life goals, working on an EP for release in the fall and possibly a tour to go with it. He unveils the club-loving video for the song at Aura on Thursday. "I wanted to add a little comedy to the video and make it feel good," he says. "That's what my music is about."
Mike Lembo plays Aura, 1900 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow, 516-794-3091, at 10 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $10.
