It has been a tough couple of days for North Babylon coach Mike Petre. His star player, Bria Hartley, had a Long Island playoff record 51 points, but North Babylon came up just short, 72-69, in a classic Suffolk Class AA championship game against Sachem East Thursday night. North Babylon rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second quarter and trailed by 13 in the third quarter before taking the lead on a Hartley three-pointer with 1:10 letf.

A quote from Thursday's game from Petre has some people taking it the wrong way. Here is the entire quote as told to Newsday's Stephen Haynes.

“It’s a magnificent performance by Bria,”Petre said. “I feel bad for her. Her teammates didn’t help her out enough. But it wasn't because they didn't give it their all. We're proud of everyone's effort, but disappointed in the result. I give Sachem East credit for taking away what we usually do well."
