Mild weather to start week on LI

The work week will start of with mainly gray skies today, but temperatures will be well above average.

Clouds will be accompanied by a very slight chance of sprinkles through the early afternoon, but there is a good chance that the sun could break out by late afternoon.

High temperatures will range from the high 60s and low 70s in areas closer to New York City to the lower- and mid-60s on Long Island, especially cooler along the shores.

On Tuesday, temperatures will drop a few degrees but remain above average with another chance of rain as a weak cold front moves through the area.

1987: Ten days of flooding in the Northeast finally came to an end. Damage from flooding due to rain and snow melt ran into the billions of dollars. The collapse of the New York State Thruway Bridge over Schoharie Creek claimed 10 lives.
