Gently used sports equipment can get a new life through a donation drive that will benefit at-risk youth.

The Long Island Volunteer Center is partnering with Garden City nonprofit Children’s Sports Connection and Modell’s Sporting Goods to hold the donation drive as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.

Starting Monday and continuing through Saturday, Modell’s stores in Freeport, Lake Success, Commack and Farmingdale will accept used lacrosse balls and sticks, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, and tennis balls and rackets.

The items must be in good condition, and must be dropped off during the stores’ business hours. The items will go to SCO Family of Services and other groups that serve youth, the volunteer center said.
