The Concerned Citizens of Montauk -- the community’s biggest civic association -- will be holding an Earth Day cleanup program on Sunday, as well as a workshop for children on decorating reusable grocery bags and a rock walk and lecture on the geological forces that have shaped the area since it was formed by a retreating glacier at the end of the ice age.

The Concerned Citizens group will be giving out garbage bags for the cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon at the Montauk Movie Theater at 3 Edgemere St., and volunteers can bring back the garbage they collect to the same spot until 2 p.m.

For children, there will be a crafts workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on decorating reusable grocery bags, and a storyteller will be on hand to entertain. That will take place at the Montauk Playhouse at 240 Edgemere St.

At 1:30 p.m., Gene Genova and Ron Russ -- president and vice-president, respectively, of the Long Island Mineral and Geology Society -- will give a talk about the geological forces that created Long Island as the glaciers receded, and that have been shaping the East End ever since.

The duo also will lead a walking tour of the rocks around the Montauk Lighthouse.

The program begins at the Camp Hero parking lot, which is on Camp Hero Road off Montauk Highway just before the lighthouse loop.
