A major dune rebuilding project is about to get underway in Montauk.

The project is an $8.5 million plan to bury thousands of huge sandbags to reinforce a stretch of severely eroded shoreline that runs through the downtown part of the village.

The Army Corps of Engineers tells News 12 the project will start in October despite a lawsuit claiming it could cause more flooding in downtown Montauk.
