TOWSON, Md. - Junior guard Mike Moore had 21 points and eight rebounds, and senior guard Charles Jenkins added 19 points as Hofstra won its 10th straight league game, 74-60, over Towson last night at the Towson Center.
The Pride improved to 11-5 overall and remains unbeaten in the Colonial Athletic Association at 5-0.
Hofstra, which is 6-1 on the road this season, also has won the last six games in the series with Towson and has tied the 2006-07 team for the best start in CAA play in the program's 10 years in the league.
"It's certainly very exciting to still be undefeated in the league," said Hofstra coach Mo Cassara. "I'm really proud of our effort. We've been able to go on the road and win some games, and you have to win on the road in order to be a contender."
The Pride led by nine points at the half, and Moore's basket on the first possession of sthe second half stretched the lead to 41-30. Towson (4-11, 0-5) crawled back within four points at 43-39 on Isaiah Philmore's layup, but Moore hit a three-pointer to turn the momentum back and jump-start a 15-3 run that stretched the lead back up to 58-42. Towson crept back to within 60-50 on a pair of fast-break layups.
Hofstra wasted little time taking control of the game, as it jumped out to quick leads of 7-0 and 14-3. Jenkins hit his second three-pointer of the game at the 12:40 mark to push the lead to 12 at 17-5 before the Pride settled for a 39-30 lead at the break.
Towson starting center Braxton Dupree, who came in averaging 14.1 points and nine rebounds, picked up four fouls in the first half in 10 minutes of playing time as the Pride held a 24-13 rebounding edge in the opening stanza.
Senior forward Greg Washington finished with 16 points for his third straight game in double figures for the Pride.
"It was unbelievable performance by Washington," Cassara said. "He had a big-time blocked shot late in the game, but he also took two charges, ran the floor, made some shots and got on the offensive glass. If he plays like that, we have a chance to win a lot of games."
