Newsday's Steve Popper spelled out the reasons why he thinks the Knicks will win the NBA title in this column.

But, wait, there's more. Here's what he wrote on X:

  • Not touched on in the column is that while the Spurs defense is tremendous -- of course with Wemby at the back, but with ferocious effort from Castle -- they sure make a lot of mistakes when they try to play fast. Mitch Johnson pointed out that Castle recovered well from the 20 turnovers in the first 2 games of the WC finals, but he did have 6 in G7.
  • And the Spurs are best when they can set their defense, but the Knicks have excelled at playing fast on turnovers and missed shots in the postseason. They won't have the advantage of Harden watching as Bridges ran out, but Wemby also will struggle to get back in those situations.
