More repairs coming for Bay Shore Marina

The Town of Islip completed a round of repairs to a town dock and marina in Bay Shore in the spring and expects to resume work when the boating season ends, officials said. The multimillion dollar improvements are aimed at preserving the town’s waterfront facilities for visitors and boaters.

“These are incredibly important public assets that have served the community for decades,” Supervisor Phil Nolan said, terming them “a centerpiece of our recreational facilities.”

Nolan recently announced that $2.5 million from the town’s capital fund was used for repairs to the Ocean Avenue Dock. The improvements, completed in April, included installation of new bulkheading and lighting, repairs to the dock’s water supply and electrical wiring as well as added parking, town officials said. Seventy-five boat slips were also refurbished.

The Ocean Avenue work is part of a move to repair several waterfront facilities in Bay Shore, Nolan said. Work on the Bay Shore Marina began in 2006, officials said, and has included rebuilding and renovating several sides of the marina and boat docks. More repairs are scheduled for November, after the boating season ends.

Part of the work at the Bay Shore Marina has been funded by a $1.5-million state grant obtained by Sen. Owen Johnson (R-Babylon). Officials estimate that the town will have used about $6 million from the town’s capital fund will on the marina repairs by the end of the project.
