Moriches Bay Buzz: The meaning of Christmas

The holiday season is no doubt one of the most stressful and overwhelming times of the year. With the shopping, wrapping, cooking and cleaning, it’s no wonder that many of us come down with a severe case of the Christmas Crazies. Symptoms include, but are not limited to, fatigue, irritability and a huge lack of holiday spirit. I must admit that I am prone to catching the Crazies myself, but, just when I thought all hope was lost, my 4-year-old son reminded me what the holidays are about – GIVING.
Evan recently parted with some of his most beloved toys when we learned of another child who was in need of holiday gifts. In fact, my son was the first to suggest that we give the child his play kitchen, a favorite of his for the past few years.
Not wanting to deal with a major meltdown in a few weeks from now, I made it clear to my little guy that he did not have to give up the kitchen, but that if he did, it would be gone for good. I am proud to say that he wouldn’t budge, and he was adamant that the child in need should have his kitchen.
So thanks Evan for helping Mom and Dad remember the true meaning of Christmas – it’s not what you get, but what you give!
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy holiday!
