Mosquito spraying tonight in Fire Island

Ground spraying will take place late today in sections of David Park and Point O’ Woods on Fire Island as part of Suffolk County’s efforts to control adult mosquitoes, county health officials said.

The spraying will occur — weather permitting — on all streets in the two beach communities from 6 to 10 p.m., using an ultra low-volume aerosol, Anvil (sumithrin).

Officials say that while chances of adverse health effects from spraying are low, children and pregnant women should avoid exposure when practical by remaining indoors and avoiding treated areas for at least 30 minutes after spraying.

If your eyes come in direct contact with sprayed chemicals, rinse them with water and wash exposed skin. Consult a health care provider if you experience any health effects from spraying.
