Most LI beaches open for Labor Day weekend
Most town and city beaches across Long Island expect to be open as usual for the Labor Day weekend.
Southold, Southampton, Riverhead, East Hamptonand Shelter Island beaches will be open for the weekend. Georgica Beach in East Hampton Village suffered severe erosion from Tropical Storm Irene and will remain closed indefinitely, Village Manager Larry Cantwell said.
All Brookhavenbeaches are open but Davis Park and Sandspit marinas remain closed.
In Islip, parks Commissioner Greg Dawson said every town facility usually open for Labor Day weekend will be open. The south dock of East Islip Marina remains closed.
Babylon's Overlook, Cedar and Gilgo beaches are open, said spokesman Max Jacob. Cedar Beach Marina is open. The beach at Venetian Shores is closed to swimming.
AllSmithtown parks are expected to be open except for Hoyt Farm Park, which was closed because of a downed power line.
Huntington's beaches will be open for the weekend.
In Oyster Bay, Florence Avenue and Stehli beaches, and the Long Island Sound side of Center Island Beach remain closed until power is restored, officials said. Tobay, Ransom, Roosevelt and Tappan beaches and the bay side of Center Island Beach are open.
InGlen Cove, Morgans Beach will be open but Mayor Ralph Suozzi said Pryibil Beach will remain closed until LIPA can clear downed wires there. Crescent Beach remains closed.
North Hempstead's Manorhaven Beach Park and North Hempstead Beach Park will be open for the weekend.
Town beaches in Hempstead will be open, as will those in Long Beach.
