Motorino pizzeria returns to Williamsburg
Lovers of wood-fired-oven Neapolitan pizza have reason to celebrate: Motorino, the hugely popular pizzeria that was forced to close its Williamsburg location back in 2011, will triumphantly reopen this week. Exact day: still TBA.
After its original location on Graham Avenue was shuttered by the Buildings Department because it was structurally unsound, the pizzeria vowed it would be back. After two long and hungry years, it's finally coming true.
"We're pumped to pick up where we left off," owner Mathieu Palombino said. "Brooklyn is the greatest place on Earth."
The new location, on Bedford Avenue and Broadway, is bigger and better than the first. The centerpiece is still the oven, constructed in Naples and in full view for guests to watch pies go in as uncooked promises and come out as masterpieces. The space is distinctly Brooklyn, with pressed-tin ceilings, reclaimed Hudson Valley hard pine flooring, exposed brick walls and contemporary lighting and furniture.
Diners can expect the pizza they came to love, of course, but also cocktails and some new items, including a pie that debuted at Motorino's Hong Kong location and is available at the East Village location. But the most intriguing new item is the Frittatina, an olive-oil-fried macaroni cake with provolone and prosciutto.
