THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget for 2010-11 of $54,247,010, which is a 0.78 percent increase over the current budget of $53,829,500. The local tax levy would rise from $34,050,730 to $35,353,510 - an increase of 3.83 percent.

Taxes on an average home assessed at $3,800 would increase by 3.83 percent from $8,048.66 to $8,356.60.

The proposed budget includes an average teacher salary raise of 2 percent. The budget does not call for a reduction in teachers but does include a reduction in other staff members of five positions. The budget will not necessitate significant cuts or changes to existing school programs, school officials said. The spending plan also does not call for any new programs.

The district is also proposing a referendum on a library tax levy of $1,740,157.
