MTA hearing on toll plan set for Tuesday

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has rescheduled a public hearing on Long Island regarding the agency’s plan to raise fares and tolls next year.
The hearing will take place at the Melville Marriott in Melville on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The hearing was originally scheduled to take place on Nov. 7 but was postponed because the venue, Farmingdale State College, did not have electricity at the time following superstorm Sandy.
The MTA’s goal is to increase overall fare revenue by about 7 percent, but Long Island Rail Road tickets will go up from 8.2 percent to 9.3 percent.
The cost of a subway and city bus ride will also climb, as will tolls on all the MTA’s crossings.
