One person was killed in an early morning accident Monday that snarled Queens-bound traffic on the Bronx side of the Throgs Neck Bridge for several hours, officials said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates the bridge, said the accident occurred about 5:46 a.m. and forced the closing of all Queens-bound lanes for about 30 minutes. One lane was reopened at 6:49 a.m., and all lanes were reopened just before 10:30 a.m., an MTA spokeswoman said.

Bronx-bound lanes were also closed intermittently as rescue vehicles rushed to the scene, she said.

A passenger in one car was killed, and four others in that car were injured, she said. Those four people, and the driver of the car who hit the first vehicle, were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, she said. Their condition was not known.

A third car rear-ended the second car, but the only occupant of that car declined medical attention, she said.
