A multifaith gathering scheduled for Saturday in Dix Hills aims to share a variety of faith traditions through prayer and sacred songs.

The fourth-annual gathering, Voices of Faith for Peace, is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence of Canterbury Church, 655 Old Country Rd.

In its first three years it attracted hundreds of Long Islanders from several faiths including African Chanting, Buddhist, Christians, Hindu, Islam, Jewish, Native Americans and Sikhs, according to the Rev. JoAnn Barrett of Gathering of Light Multifaith Spiritual Fellowship, organizer of the event.

“We have to do more than tolerate each other,” Barrett said. “We have to deeply respect and stand by each other. This is an opportunity for that; when you’re calling to your God it’s a vulnerable moment, and to share that with others is unifying.”
