The portion of the Barrier Beach Memphis Blues and Arts Festival that was rained out earlier this summer will be joining forces on Sunday with the weekly Arts in the Plaza project.

The family-friendly event, hosted by Artists in Partnership Inc., is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Kennedy Plaza, 1 W. Chester St. in Long Beach. The free event will feature music, arts, crafts and photography booths.

Blues musician Mike Barnett and members of his trio, Butch Bateman on drums and Ken Kreske on keyboards, will be teaching an improvisational workshop at 11 a.m. to singers and musicians of all ages, levels and instrument choices. Electricity will be provided for amps and instruments.

The trio will then perform from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., followed by singer-songwriter Matt Kourie on guitar.

Visual artist Lisa L. Cangemi will teach children at 11:30 a.m. how to design and create playful instruments and explore the sounds the instruments create. Children’s Blues Jam will wrap up the workshop.
