Music of the tropics coming to Sachem Library

The weekend forecast predicts warmer temperatures, but the Sachem Public Library will be downright tropical with the music and rhythms of a steel-drum band.

At 7 p.m. Friday, the library will host  Steel Impressions, a Long Island family  steel band.  The performance will include calypso, reggae and soca tunes on steel-pan drums created from 55-gallon oil drums, according to the library website.

The Steel Impressions performance is part of the library's Black History Month showcase and is appropriate for both children and adults. The library is located at 150 Holbrook Rd., Holbrook.
