The North Hempstead Town Council on Jan. 25 will consider an application from Harbor Homes Llp to build a 48-unit senior housing complex on 1.5 acres of land in Port Washington.

Called Harbor View apartments, the complex would have  underground parking, a fitness center, lending library and social room. I

t’s designed for residents aged 55 and older who make between 50 and 60 percent of the area’s median income, which is $103,000, said Sean T. Rainey, executive director of the North Hempstead Housing Authority.

“It’s very difficult nowadays for seniors to live in Long Island,” Rainey said. “You have to make it affordable for them.”
