Nabers impressing his new coach: 'He knows what everybody's doing'
Malik Nabers continued to do individual drills on Friday at practice. Aside from Thursday, it's the only thing he's done so far.
That could be changing when the Giants get back to New Jersey and resume practice on Monday. John Harbaugh gave an update that Nabers is trending to be able to do more team work, although Harbaugh didn't say when yet.
"He'll be working his way back into practice more and more, just as we go here," Harbaugh said. "We'll see. We'll see what he's ready to do each day."
It was encouraging to see Nabers catch passes, run routes and test his leg during the first week of practice in West Virginia. The Giants have been patient with his ramp-up knowing that the goal is to be ready by the season opener against the Cowboys on Sept. 13.
But Harbaugh is also learning how Nabers processes the game. The two stood by each other Friday during team drills and the coach was impressed by what his star receiver was seeing and thinking.
"He's taking me through the routes. We get the play called, he'd be taking me through what everybody's doing," Harbaugh said. "Malik's got a great mind for ball, and he knows on every single play, he knows what everybody's doing. That's kind of, I think, his way of getting his mental reps back there. So, that was the beneficiary of that. It was fun."
