Nassau baseball players of the week

The final week of conference play is upon us. As teams continue to jockey for playoff seeding and spots we look at the players who made a huge impact on their teams second to last series of the seasons during the week of April 29-May 5.
Alec Chiappone, Locust Valley
Chiappone keyed Locust Valley’s two wins over BC-I rival Wheatley – he scored the winning run in the top of the sixth of a 5-4 win after delivering a two-run single to tie the game on April 29 and finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs. In the game on April 30 Chiappone went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs.
Chris Figueroa, South Side
Figueroa played a key role in South Side’s sweep of A-II rival Plainedge by going 3-for-4 in each of the last two games of the series. Those six hits included a double and a triple and seven RBIs.
Anthony Galanoudis, Farmingdale
Galanoudis struck out nine and walked three in a complete game shutout of Farmingdale and also went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs at the plate.
Max Manos, Cold Spring Harbor
Pitched a one hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as Cold Spring Harbor defeated Malverne 9-0 on April 29. He also contributed at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base.
Mark Martinez, Division
Martinez went 9-for-11 and scored seven runs as Division swept Roslyn in a three game set last week.
Anthony Martino, Glen Cove
Martino went 2-for-4 and hit a three run home run in Glen Cove’s 14-3 win over Great Neck North on April 29 and came back the next day and pitched a four-hit complete game shutout with six strikeouts as Glen Cove won 13-0.
Luchiano Morello, Hewlett
Morello struck out eight batters and allowed only four hits and an earned run in a 5-1 win over Bethpage.
Jake Santamaria, Oceanside
The junior south paw pitched a one-hitter over seven innings with nine strikeouts and allowed an earned run in a win over Baldwin.
Brandon Sherman, West Hempstead
Sherman picked up the win in West Hempstead’s 5-3 win over North Shore on April 30 after pitching eight innings with 13 strikeouts and allowing an earned run and five hits. Sherman also had a two-run double in the top of the eighth that gave West Hempstead the lead.
