Nassau County Legis. David Denenberg (D-Merrick) will present a free taxpayer assistance program and tax assessment workshops on how to file a grievance of a property assessment with the county Assessment Review Commission.

Experts will provide assistance, guidance and information on the tax grievance application process. A question-and-answer session and one-on-one assistance will follow. The grievance-filing period runs through May 1.

Residents will also learn about several tax exemptions, including the STAR (School Tax Reduction), Enhanced STAR, senior citizens, veterans, Cold War veterans, limited income and disability, volunteer firefighter/EMT and home improvement exemptions. The deadline for submitting tax exemption applications is April 1.

Denenberg’s workshops will be offered on:

Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Freeport Library, 144 W. Merrick Rd.

March 11, 7:30 p.m., North Merrick Library, 1691 Meadowbrook Rd.

April 15, 7:30 p.m., Wantagh Library, 3285 Park Ave; only on assessment grievances.
