Debra S. Mulé’s district has plenty of nuts-and-bolts infrastructure issues that need addressing, and the 59-year-old from Freeport is up to the challenge.

Mulé is focused on alleviating the threat of flooding around areas like Silver Lake, as well as pushing the Bay Park Conveyance Project, meant to divert sewage from Reynolds Channel, help reduce nitrogen levels, and bolster natural flood barriers. She is cognizant of the need to help businesses get back on their feet in Baldwin, and has her eyes on important local projects like transforming the Oakwood Beach Club into green space, and fixing up the historic Kellogg House in Baldwin.

Her GOP opponent, Brian J. McEvoy, 59, of South Hempstead, is an assistant varsity basketball coach at Island Trees High School in Levittown and an attendance coordinator at Hewlett High School. He is attuned to some district issues but doesn’t disagree with Mulé on much.

Newsday endorses Mulé.

Nassau Legislative District 5 covers South Hempstead, Freeport, Baldwin, Baldwin Harbor, part of Merrick.
