Laura Burns for Nassau Legislative District 6

When Democrat Laura J. Burns sought this seat two years ago we endorsed her, not because Republican C. William Gaylor is a poor option but because Burns is an unusually good one.
She's only gotten better.
Burns, 52, a children's book author from Rockville Centre, is a passionate advocate for sensible gun laws. She correctly supports mandating the COVID-19 vaccine for police officers and county staffers who deal with the public, while Gaylor does not. And she's not afraid to buck Democrats: She says County Executive Laura Curran is wrong not to fill dozens of open positions in the county assessment office.
Gaylor, 58, of Lynbrook, represents his district well, but is too often on the wrong side of issues. He often calls Curran's assessment system fix a backdoor tax increase, which it isn't, and has claimed gradual and minimal steps would fix inequities in the system, which they wouldn't.
Newsday endorses Burns.
Nassau Legislative District 6 covers Hewlett, Lynbrook, North Lynbrook, part of South Hempstead, Malverne.
