Nassau hospitals focus on Sandy health issues

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Health Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein Wednesday announced a partnership with North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Systems, Winthrop University Hospital and Nassau University Medical Center to field questions and concerns from residents about potential health problems associated with superstorm Sandy.
These hospitals have occupational health divisions that deal with such issues.
Mangano said: “As our residents continue to cope with the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, this partnership provides an additional resource for those who may be experiencing adverse health effects. I welcome the assistance.”
Eisenstein said: “This partnership provides an additional safety net and is a great resource to our residents in their time of need.”
Possible medical concerns include exposure to: water contaminated with sewage/oil/gasoline, mold, household chemicals, carbon monoxide, asbestos and lead.
