The games will go on after sundown at the Syosset Central School District thanks to portable lights the county has approved.

The six light sets will cost $48,000 and can be used for athletic events at the Syosset Central School District High School, the H.B. Thompson Middle School, and the J. Irving Baylis School.

“When sometimes it’s starting to get dark out this would help them continue their games,” said Nassau County Legis. Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury). Jacobs said she has pushed for the funding for three years.

District interim superintendent of schools Ronald Friedman said the lights will be an asset, allowing games go on into the twilight hours.

“The fields are in use all the time,” Friedman said. “If you can get an extra an extra hour of playing time you can probably get a whole other set of teams in and that makes a big difference in terms of giving kids quality experiences.”
