Child safety, prescription drug drop-offs, a parade and face time with law enforcers are snapshots of what to expect during Tuesday’s National Night Out campaign in Nassau County.

Nassau, along with police departments nationwide, will participate in the 28th annual campaign. The purpose of the national campaign is to heighten drug and crime awareness, familiarize the community with anti-crime efforts and have residents meet face to face with the crime fighters.

“It also sends a message to criminals that the neighbors are watching and are organized,” said Nassau County Police spokesman Det. Vincent Garcia.

All eight Nassau precincts will hold events. Highlights will include a focus on prescription drug abuse at the department’s Seventh Precinct. Narcotics detectives and police officers will be at the Town of Oyster Bay’s “Music Under the Stars” concert series from 6 to 8 p.m. at John J. Burns Park on Merrick Road, where they will provide booklets on illegal prescription drug abuse and accept prescription drug drop-offs before the concert, which will feature the New York Tenors.

Other highlights include:

* First and Third Precinct, 8 to 10 p.m. with Legis. Norma Gonsalves (R-East Meadow) at Town Square at Veterans Memorial Park, 1700 Prospect Ave., East Meadow.

* Second Precinct, 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Oyster Bay Car Show at Oyster Bay Town Hall, 54 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay.

* Suffolk County Police will be in the parking lot of the Bay Shore Target, 838 Sunrise Hwy., from 5 to 8 p.m. with activities including the distribution of child identification kits and face painting. Members of the Bay Shore Fire Department will be present to talk about fire safety.

* And Wyandanch will host an event from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wyandanch Park on Mount Avenue.
