In response to the letters critical of the plans for the Nassau Aquatic Center ["Pool management all wet," June 9], the writers make some valid points. But both should understand that public-private partnerships are a valid method for controlling cost. They may not agree on the proposed operator of the facility, but a partnership is a valid option.

How does this proposal differ from other partnerships within Nassau County, for example, the restaurant and catering hall at The Carlton or the building of a new Nassau Coliseum? Both of these venues are on county land being operated by outside organizations for profit-sharing with the county.

So if there can be an addition to the current aquatic complex that benefits both the investor and the public, where is the harm? If a private organization wants to invest in a county project, and that investment offsets the financial burden to the taxpayer while providing a valuable service, then why not support it?

For Nassau County to thrive and become strong again, it's time to start thinking outside of the box.
