Nassau spraying for mosquitoes this week
The Nassau County Department of Health and Public Works will be ground spraying this week to control mosquitoes and West Nile virus.
The spraying will occur between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. in the following areas:
* Tuesday — sections of Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, North Massapequa, Plainedge, Bethpage, Old Bethpage, Plainview, Hicksville and Levittown.
* Wednesday — sections of Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Malverne, Lakeview, Franklin Square and West Hempstead.
* Thursday — sections of West Hempstead, Valley Stream and North Valley Stream.
It is not necessary to relocate or take special precautions when spraying is occurring. However, pregnant women and children should remain inside during the treatment and 30 minutes afterward, Nassau County officials said in a news release.
Exposure can be limited by keeping windows and doors shut, turning window fans off and moving toys, pets and their food and water dishes inside.
Maps of the areas designated for treatment can be found at NassauCounty.gov.
