A memorial ceremony will be held Thursday in honor of Nassau County Police Department members who died over the past year.

The service, part of National Police Week, will be held at 11 a.m. at the Police Memorial on the front lawn of police headquarters in Mineola.

Floral tributes will be placed at the memorial honoring the dead, and the police pipe band and color guard will participate.

Police Week coincides with the department’s annual open house week, during which students are invited to tour police facilities, including the detention center, 911 center, helicopter and K-9 units.

Spokesman Vincent Garcia says thousands of students have already visited the department.
