2 teens face charges in synagogue break-ins

A 16-year-old from Queens, already a suspect in a prior synagogue break-in in the Five Towns area, was arrested Monday and charged with breaking into a second synagogue and then stealing a car, police said.
Daniel Weiss, of Far Rockaway, faces two counts of third-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny.
Nassau County police said Weiss obtained the combination to the door lock at Congregation Aish Kodesh on Woodmere Place, Woodmere, and sneaked inside, on Saturday, taking two sets of keys to a 2011 Honda that he then stole from the parking lot.
The car was recovered, said police, who then arrested Weiss.
Police said Weiss and another teen, Avraham Moseson, 16, of Woodmere, had broken into another synagogue on Aug. 11. During that burglary, police said, the teens removed an air conditioner from the window of the Congregation Shaare Emunah on Oakland Avenue in Cedarhurst, then ransacked the interior, taking an undisclosed amount of cash.
That incident was captured on surveillance video, which, police said, allowed detectives to identify the two teens. Moseson was arrested Sept. 6 on charges of third-degree burglary and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Moseson is scheduled to appear in court March 20; Weiss was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
