(AP) — Six members of a suspended Rutgers University sorority pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of hazing.

A lawyer for five of the women said they deny the allegations of paddling Sigma Gamma Rho pledges.

Each woman is charged in Municipal Court with aggravated hazing for allegedly striking several new members on the buttocks with paddles between Jan. 18 and Jan. 25.

One pledge went with her mother to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.

National leaders of the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority suspended the Rutgers chapter.
