WASHINGTON — In a story published February 3, 2024, about a U.S. air assault on sites in Iraq and Syria, The Associated Press reported National Security Council spokesman John Kirby’s statement that the U.S. had alerted the Iraqi government prior to carrying out the strikes. Days later, Kirby said he had been given incorrect information and said the U.S. had not given advance notice.
