Vice President Joe Biden is calling attention to his own
Irish heritage while kicking off St. Patrick’s Day by hosting a breakfast at the U.S. Naval Observatory for Ireland’s new Prime Minister, Enda Kenny.
Biden, the first Irish American to serve as vice president, told a group of elected officials and guests that the Irish have made great contributions to American culture, particularly their appreciation for family and community values. The officials and guests dined on eggs Florentine and Irish soda bread as a violinist played traditional Irish music.
Biden and Kenny are meeting with President Barack Obama later this morning. All three are then heading to Capitol Hill for lunch with lawmakers of Irish heritage.
There’s also a White House reception for Kenny this evening.
