Blaze at site of derailment in Ky. to keep burning
Authorities in Kentucky say a fire at the site of a train derailment is expected to continue burning throughout the day.
Officials had initially said that the fire, fueled by a pressurized chemical that was being carried by a railcar, would burn itself out within two hours. However, Doug Hamilton with Metro Louisville Emergency Management says the fire is expected to continue burning through the day Thursday.
Officials said Thursday that they were given inaccurate information about how much of the flammable chemical remained inside the car.
Three workers were injured Wednesday after a cutting torch ignited vapors at the site of Monday's derailment. One was in critical condition, while the other two were in fair condition.
The blaze is contained to one tanker, but flames continue to shoot out of the overturned car.
