Connecticut jury will hear closing arguments before deciding whether a man
convicted of a deadly home invasion should get the death penalty or life in prison.

Prosecutors and attorneys for Steven Hayes will make the arguments Thursday morning in New Haven Superior Court. The jury will then get instructions from the judge and could begin deliberating Friday.

Hayes was convicted of killing Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters in the home invasion in 2007 in Cheshire.

His co-defendant, Joshua Komisarjevsky (koh-mih-sar-JEV’-skee), faces trial next year.

Hayes was convicted of sexually assaulting and strangling Hawke-Petit. Authorities say her daughters, Michaela and Hayley, died of smoke inhalation after they were tied to their beds and doused with gasoline before the house was set ablaze.
